Using XP Pro for webserver

For just hosting a simple website, are there any drawbacks to just using IIS in an XP Pro or Win2k machine as opposed to using 2000 or 2003 server?

Can the XP machine do two sites at once, for example one on port 80 and one on another port?

Any limitations on concurrent connections or some such thing like that?

IIS on XP can only host one web site. The limit on simultaneous connections is 10. That is about it, but for completeness, look here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/evaluation/features/iis.mspx

Just as an aside: You should check to see if your ISP will allow you to run a server off their connection.

+1 for Apache. If you're looking for simplicity, go for Apache2Triad.

For windows just use XAMMP ( http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html ) It has everything you need. Apache, Mysql, php, pear, perl, pop3/imap, smtp, ftp server, and more. Plus its very easy to install on linux, windows, mac, solaris, etc.
