using xp on a lan

i have setup a little home network, with the best computer having xp installed. I do not always have the network connected. Windows xp does not seem very happy when my hub or other coputers are not turned on and gives an annoying icon in the sys tray saying it cant connect. What i want to be able to do is tell that little icon in the system not to come up. I know its a minor problem, but its really iratating me.

Does anyone else get that little icon saying the lan is not connected, and does anyone know how to stop it coming up?
