Using windows XP built-in FTP Server

I know there are probably easier FTP applications out there with more power, but I'd really like to try to get the XP default FTP server setup. I installed the appropriate components, and I have the service running, but how do I setup accounts for people to log in with? And set other controls, like throttle, and directory access? I see a lot of features grayed out and I can't click into the window that allows for account creations in the FTP properties window. Do I have to create log in names for each user on my windows machine for those who are to connect to the ftp server? That seems silly because I don't necessarily want those who log in to my ftp server to log on to my computer as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, that FTP server uses the accounts on the system and normal filesystem ACLs for access control. I don't know if it supports bandwidth throttling.

XP's built in FTP is IIS5....IIS5 will forever be the bastard stepchild example of piss poor programing for security. You would be MUCH better off using something like Filezilla, that has support, updates, and less of a craptastic record of security. Oh, and IIS on XP is limited to 5 connections.

It does but I'm not sure if the XP version enables bandwidth throttling or not. As nweaver said, I'd highly recommend a 3rd party program. That version is just too old and too unsafe.
