Using Verizon DSL........Can I use something else besides Winpoet???

My DSL just hangs all the time, I'll be surfing, and all of a sudden nothing loads, IM stops working, everything just pauses. Does anybody else encounter this??? Does it have anything to do with Winpoet??? (I've heard a lot of bad things about Winpoet. Can I use different Ppoe software?

Yeah change the OS...seriously i've encountered same problems with pauses under winblows me and verizon untill i hooked the modem to my Linux box,which never does this (roaring penguin)...and it works great too.Hope this helps.

i'd have to agree with PLblazes opinion about WinME, it's pure junk.

If you want to hook up more than 1 system go ahead and get one of the small Cable/DSL Routers. That solved all of my connection problems as well as speeding my connection up. im connected 24/7 now average monthly usage is 700+ hours connected

I'd say e-phex is right, RASPPPOE is the best PPPoE client. When I had Earthstink DSL ( /me shudders) they used PPPoE and I started out using WinPoET 2.x (I think) and had random disconnection probs. I switched to RASPPPOE and the problems went away. Plus RASPPPOE is a much smaller program and uses less resources. FWIW, I'd dump Me and go Win2000, baby!
