Using uplink port for DSL connection? [netgear hub]

I have a 4 port netgear hub with an uplink port. I was just wondering if my overall connection will suffer if going through the uplink as apposed to another nic. I know its best to use a dsl router but my network isn't used that frequently so i dont want to spend the money to buy a router.

Would i notice a difference between going directly to my nic over the uplink port?

Yes, assuming you have a full-duplex NIC. Hubs are only half duplex. If you wanted full potential, you'd want to get a switch. For a few bucks more, you could get a Linksys router with a switch built in.

Uplink, Hub, Switch has nothing to do with this issue.

The issue is Inernet Routing, that has to be done either with software or Hardware. Software is slower.
