i have a sony 420gs and a msi gf2 pro. Ive used linux and was able to use a resolution of 1440x1050. I was wondering if I could do it in windows xp without any problems or causing any harm
 
Use powerstrip w/Advanced Timing and Resolutions, you can do it. Just make sure you know the refresh rate your monitor can handle at that res.
