Using SSH for port forwarding

I go to the University of Pittsburgh where most, if not all, incoming ports are closed. However, they keep port 23 open for SSH connections. I tried to play Warcraft III tonight and I knew it wouldn't work since 6112 couldn't come in. So I was wondering if it were possible to connect via SSH to forward the 6112 port to my pc?

Edit: Or am I totally off in my meaning of port forwarding?

Thanks.

If it really needs port 6112 incoming to be allowed, I really doubt it'll work. And on top of that, this forum frowns upon people trying to circumvent security measures at school or work.

You'd need an ssh server on the outside. But don't do it, because they block all that traffic for good reasons. Please don't ruin it for people that use ssh for valid reasons.

Edit: nevermind that, I got incoming and outgoing confused 😕

I don't understand why it needs an INCOMING port opened, that's really strange

not to mention bad mojo. Lots of Networking forum folks are "The Man" and we arn't going to help you stick it to "The Man"

Ditto. Circumventing the network admins is frowned upon here. If you have questions talk to them about it.

Call CSSD and ask if them for help.

If that doesn't work and you really need to play Warcraft III, live off campus. South Oakland and North Oakland aren't aren't too bad. Besides, both are usally within in 10-15 min walking distance to Towers or other buildings on campus.

WC3 only needs ports opened to host games, it shouldn't need the ports open to play games.

Or trying going to WC3's Options > Game Play and change that port to 23.

Wobble, it only allows ports > 1024. 🙁

Thanks all for the advice. I'm not trying to circumvent it for malicious purposes, and I apologize if it came across that way.

And RedCOMET, it's not essential that I need to play it. Just decided to fire it up one night and discovered I couldn't AT / host custom games, so it's no big deal. (Plus I don't want to risk getting shot in South Oakland. 😛)

Not to sound like a dick, but the reasoning behind the circumvention is irrelevant. If they go to all of that trouble to block the traffic they probably have their reasons and one of them is probably just that they don't want you 'wasting' their bandwidth with on-line games.

(Plus I don't want to risk getting shot in South Oakland. )

Maybe I'm weird but I've never been too worried about Oakland. If you want to see some shady parts of town head down to Homestead or Wilkinsburg =)

Maybe he should go to the Hill District....

Heck, just hang out in front of the O long enough...i think there was already a shooting there since the begingin of the 2006 school year.

i am sure those are some rough and tumble neighborhoods but the "lower ninth ward" of New Orleans averaged 2 murders a day!!! After Katrina most of the resisdents from the LNW were sent to Houston and there crime rate has gone up 80% since then.

"The O" damn...that brings back some late-night memories!

I hate to say it, but i've been to the O only 2 times since i've been going to PITT. meh

That's the other one I was trying to think of.

There's at least one shooting a week outside the O and that's right on Forbes.

I must be lucky then because I've never had a single problem in Oakland.

Sure, but flying to NO is a little bit more work than driving 20 minutes.

I don't go to Pitt, but I've only been to the O once.
