Using speed adjusters on other fans

I purchased a Zalman fan and heatsink and was relatively unimpressed by the results. I'm wondering, though, if I can use its speed adjuster on a stock Athlon 64 fan. The fan has worked well, but is very noisy. I know it can adjust to a variety of speeds (I've done so with Speedfan), but it'd be nice if it stayed at a constant top speed lower than the current.

Can I use the Zalman speed adjuster on this fan, or are they only for Zalman products?

You can use the Zalman FanMate with any 3 pin fan as long as you stay within the wattage specs of the device.
