Using SMB volumes

Whatever they're called these days, the invisible files OSX writes in lieu of resource forks (the ones that begin with a period but are otherwise duplicate filenames) are on my nerves.

Is there any way for me to keep my OSX machine from writing these files to a volume? Ideally, volume-by-volume control would be best, but even protocol-level control would be acceptable.

I hear people asking for this, but what I really want is something that does the opposite. Does anyone know of a way to make files starting with a . invisible on Windows?
