Using Raid as extra IDE channels?

Using Raid as extra IDE channels

Here is my setup..

Pioneer DVD Rom on IDE1
CDRW on IDE2
Maxtor 30 gb on RAID 1

Now I wanted to add a 60 gb hard drive to my RAID 2,
but my bios won't let me pick what RAID channel I want to boot off. Soo when I add my 60 gb hard drive to Raid 2 and boot up my computer asks for system disks.

Any thoughts? How can I make my computer boot off only 1 Raid channel?

I know I could put my hard drive slave, on my Dvd rom or my other hard drive.

I know for a fact that they Highpoint controller WILL let you pick your boot drive. Do this. Install your new HD onto the free channel on the HPT controller. Reboot.

Right after the Abit BIOS posts, you'll see the HPT bios posting. Youll see where it says "Hit CTRL-H" to enter bios. do that. Once inside, pick the option from the menu up top that says "select boot drive"

You hit that and then the drives at the bottom of the screen are highlited. Using the arrow keys, highlite the one you want to make the boot. Save and exit.

Then go into your regular bios and ensure that you have Highpoint controller selected as first boot devcie. Prob solved. 😎

i've read not to put an optical drive on the raid controller's channels....only hard drives should go on it....put your optical drives on your motherboard chipset's controller (that's what i've read, anyway)
