Ok here is the situation, i have a Li-po battery i need to charge and the charger i have is 12v DC only. Would it be safe to make a power cable and run it out of the case to power the charger. My psu should have plenty of power. Im just running ideas through my mind. what do you think?

Shouldn't be a problem.
Thats providing that the Li battery your charging has a charge controller integrated with the battery. Do not directly charge a Li battery with 12vdc, it will most likely catch fire. Li batteries require a charge controller between the battery and the 12VDC used in a pc.

That said. The 12vdc in your pc is not different than any other 12vdc, often more stable.
I have a spare pc that I use for a router/firewall/server that also powers the cable modem and switch :)

The charger gets 12V coz it standard voltage supply, but the battery might need less, and the chatger probably has cut off circuit to avoid over charging too.

So connecting the Battery directly to PSU mighrt be a Big Mistake.

In any case if you do want to try put protecting glasses, loves, and stand far away, just in case it blows in your face.

i will NOT be plugging the battery into the psu. i will be using the psu to run the charger because it requires a DC input current, not AC (wall power). the charger is designed specifically to stop power once fully chargered. Would it be a problem if i unplug the charger from the psu while the computer is running?

Should be fine. I used a psu to power a 18v cordless drill (+12V and -5V rails).
The plugging/unplugging while running should be fine as long as its not a huge load and crappy psu, or the plug is crap and can short circuit while unplugging.
