I am full of electricity or maybe it's my shocking personality. seriously, i get shocked a lot. i get shocked on my car door, on shopping carts, when i touch metal shelves, etc... *snap*, and it hurts. I have learned to "ground" myself before i touch a car door now though. : /

Yes, terribly inefficient.

Solar energy -> Chemical energy in plants -> Meat.
The meat can be in people, or it can be in your delicious animal of choice.
There, it's still chemical energy, and it's then converted into forms our body can use.
Then you'd convert that to mechanical energy, which would then be transferred through a mechanism to move a generator, and then you'd have electricity, with efficiency losses every step of the way.

The current process of directly consuming fuels to make steam to move turbines is already sufficiently inefficient.

I did like one idea for fusion reactors that would bypass the wholesteam/turbine thing and use pulsed plasma to directly induce an EMF into adjacent wires.

With the special power to shock only yourself, I don't think you'll be single-handedly cleaning up the streets anytime soon. ;)
:D
The Emperor goes to zap Luke, but only ends up shorting himself out across his own chest. Oops.

I'm surprised you can't buy exercise bikes that turn generators that can charge batteries or send energy back into the grid.

Lots of people have already pointed out why this 'people as battery' thing is possibly the silliest bit of The Matrix (apart from the dialog and characterisation, anyway).

But on the point above, while it would hardly be worth the bother of adding the power output to the grid, what I think would surely be a good idea would be an exercise bike with a USB connection to your PC (or some sort of external power switch connection to your console) that means if your kid wants to carry on playing GTA or CoD or whatever he has to keep peddling, or it will shut down.

Obviously a more complicated version would be Wii-like, and incorporate the peddling speed in whatever game is being played, but that would need purpose-designed games which would likely end up being rubbish and be rejected in favour of the WoWs and CoDs etc.

A simple 'keep going or you can't play' switch would probably be better at ending the obesity crisis amongst the nation's youngsters. And geeks.

In fact, it could apply to PCs used for adding comments on forums and facebook etc. If you don't keep peddling fast enough your comment gets cut off in mid

A better idea would be to install a heat transfer "skin" into the penis of every male child, then sit them in front of a pc loaded with all the pr0n in the world once they hit puberty. Plug the wire connected to that skin into the power grid.

Women will have to pull their weight too... that is why every one of them must do at least one pr0n once they become of legal age.

Would amphetamine increase power overall in the long term? Doubt it. But I'm trying to work out a diet/sleep routine that can make it work out in the positive.

You should try using more fabric softener on your bed sheets. All that friction... :sneaky:

I still don't understand why the gym treadmills/bikes/ellipticals are not hooked up to a dynamo to generate electricity instead of running on electricity.

That's actually a very interesting question. One could theoretically research this by giving amphetamine to people in comas and seeing if they start gaining or losing weight when their diet is unchanged....

What happened to those remotes they were making years ago that used the button press to power the signal, so there was no need for batteries?

This could work in jails. Why let them just rot there? Make them wear a special suit that has this liquid going through it to boil, while they are pushing a turbine. Dual power! You get maybe 5-6 people per turbine, there would just be these handles that they push on, kinda like the old mills where they'd get horses to do it.

Instead of prisoners costing money, why not turn them into profit? :D

The moving belt is the motivation that forces people to keep going, less they want to experience the embarrassment of going face flat into the thing.
