would one be able to stick ddr400 ram into a computer using a 333mhz bus and then lower the ram to 333 mhz and then tighten up the tiings and get liek cas 1.5-1.5-1.5-1 (with the nice ram samsung tccd chips? ocz platinum rev.2 pc 3200 )

To keep my Xeons and ram in sync, I am running my Ram at 166Mhz. Of course at that speed I am at very tight ram timings. For me it works well as my dual Xeons seem to like to have the ram and cpu's at the same speed.

Of course speed wins over timings. Timings to me are like a fine adjustment when you get to your best overall system performance.

You can put the ram in and run it at a lower speed, but i don't think you can hit 1.5-1.5-1.5-1. To the best of my knowledge the fastest timings that can be done at any speed are 2-2-2, i have never heard of a motherboard with a setting for a latency of 1.5.
If you are trying to do that to improve performance, don't bother. In most new computers, mem speed matters much more than timings, so its not worth the effort.

I believe DFI has at least one board that has a 1.5 CAS timing available. It only works with 1 DIMM in Wes' testing, IIRC. I don't think non-whole-number values exist for any of the other timings, so unless you could get some seriously sweet RAM that would do 1.5-1-1, you'd be stuck at 1.5-2-2. You'd also need a motherboard that supported those timings, and I'm not sure those exist either.

Although it would be "awesome" I read a review that tested those timings and it didnt really improve anything much as you could imagine. Its not worth really doing those timings. 2-2-2 is fine enough.

can you find a link to that board?
cause ive never heard of anything with latencies that low, and i'd like to see it.

I believe anandtech did a review on the lanparty a while back and thye were running the ram at 1.5. I know it has the option for 1.5CL though

I have an interim board I am running right now that supports 1.5.... it is the DFI AD77 with teh VIA KT400 chipset... I hate the board as compared to mine in my sig but m AN7 decided to die

Interesting, i had no idea there was an option on any motherboard to run ram at that low a latency.
