Using Paypal safe without connecting a bank account to it?

Hi,

Want to create a paypal account however i hear you have to permanently link a bank account to it which i don't feel very safe. Linking a credit card is equally unsafe to me.

Isn't it possible to just put money there manually from your bank account.. so that there is no permanent link.

I hear that is possible but with limitations.. like even if you have put enough money on your paypal account, that you can't always pay with it or something

Anybody can clarify this.

Also, is it still so that hackers can do crazy stuff to your account like put you in dept or can this only happen by your own mistake?

I had a bank account specifically for Paypal. I just joined a new bank, used it for paypal and that's it. I eventually got rid of my bank account info on Paypal, and now just have like $100 sitting in my paypal account with no bank attached. It wasn't hard to remove my bank info after I added it, but I'm not sure if they still keep that info on record somewhere in the cloud (I imagine that could lead to a lawsuit... didn't read the fine print though there's always **** fine print).

But do you HAVE to connect a bank account to it.. i read at least in Belgium that this is not required but that there might be certain restrictions even if you have money on the paypal account.. i don't get it

My PP account only has a CC attached to it so I know it's possible. I believe there are certain restrictions with only a CC.
Like limiting your monthly/yearly funds that you can send and receive. Maybe more but I don't know them off the top of my head. Of course it could be completely different in Belgium.

I have a reload type debit card linked to my paypal account and paypal didn't require me to link my bank account. They ask all the time though but it's easy enough to ignore.

In the US a credit card is much safer to use online than a debit card. It just has more protections. That is why I linked my debit card to paypal so merchants would get my card number. I would still use paypal even if I had a credit card.

All the above is coming from a buyers and not a sellers point of view.

I hook up my bank account to paypal only to get money out, then I disconnect it again ASAP.
