Using Opteron 244 as a single CPU

I'm building this new server and I have a really bad feeling that the Tyan dual CPU capable mobo won't boot with a single Opteron Model 244 CPU. On boot up, it reports a conflict between CPUs...even though there in only one (in CPU0 position)

Anyone had experience with this?

Do you need a "terminator" in the empty socket by any chance? Or maybe there is a BIOS setting that tells the system that this is actually gonna be a single CPU system.

I don't know about a terminator. The Tyan book only says that a single CPU config requires the CPU to be in CPU0 position.

So one slot instead of the other? Kinda like a toaster, eh?

If the cpu is @ CPU0 and the memory installed @ CPU0/DIMMA1 it should work.

If it doesn't you can try out the Tyan tech support that Anand said was very good.

Turns out it's a problem with the Tyan BIOS version. I flashed the latest version (2.0.2 beta) and it's fixed the problem.

A trap for young players!!
