Using one cable modem for 2 computers?

Alright, here is what I want to do. I have a cable modem up in my room w/ @home cable service. My sister wants cable internet on her computer downstairs. Her room is about 50 feet away from mine. How would I do this? I don't want to pay anymore money per month, or buy another modem, I just want us both to be using 1 modem (and we will both beable to surf at the same time also). I know there is a way to do it but I don't know the name of it, or how to do it. I know this isn't much of a description, but it was like a year ago, and im not much of a cable/dsl guru. Anyone know how I could do this? Is there instructions online somewhere? I couldn't look it up on google cause I dont know what it's called. Thanks.

You need a router of some sort and a hub (unless the router has a built in hub or switch).

You can build your own router using an old computer with 2 Network cards, a hub, and something like NAT32 or you can buy a real router like a Netgear RT314, which also has a built in 4-port switch.

I currently share my cable modem with 3 computers using method #1 and a hub.

That's great. Where could I buy a router and a hub? I just need a cheap one nothing special, preferably under $100 for both. Does NewEgg.com sell routers?

There are 2 ways to do this. You can do the router way as described above or network the 2 computers together via a home network. If running a cable is out of the question, I would recommend a wireless network - ie. 802.11b. The network cards aren't too much $$$ and you will also be able to share drives and printers along with the internet connection if you like.

Networking the two computers together is what would probably be best for me, since i'm only going to be hooking up 2 computers, not 4. How would I network the two computers together? Running a cable isn't out of the question, that would work good. If I go the router way, do I just need to buy a router, or do I need a router & a hub, or does the router have a built in hub? Thx
