Using my Xbox 360 controller as a remote?

I have a wireless xbox 360 controller hooked up to my PC and I like using it for games but I want to use it to control applications. I frequently find I am laying in my bed with my headphones on unable to reach the computer without getting up thinking, "Boy, wish I could just skip forward in this podcast." I tend to listen to podcasts in a row. I can listen to like hours of podcasts all in a row. Anyway, want to make it control EVERYTHING. Even the ability to shut off or make my computer sleep. All from the xbox 360 controller... Possible? Anyone?

look into Joytokey, I know using that you should be able to set up buttons to link to keyboard commands.
