I have ICQ from many years ago and like the interface. I'm interested in using my old ICQ # to chat to others via ICQ & AIM is this possible?

No, it's not possible to use your ICQ number to chat with other using AIM -- you'd have to sign up for AIM and get a AIM username and password.

You can use multi-protocol clients like GAIM, Trilliam, Miranda, etc., to IM using all the popular networks (AIM, ICQ, MSN...)

That's strange because I've chated with someone who claims they are using ICQ. I was signed on to AIM and I got a message from some number 1657... (clearly an ICQ number) and had aconversation with him. I neglected to ask him how he was doing so =\

Its possible he created an AIM screen name that was identical to his ICQ account.

It is possible, but I don't remember how. If I recall, it wasn't really full featured and I don't know how convenient it would be to talk to everyone using ICQ.

you can do this in ICQ... you damn newbs. Im on ICQ exclusively and chat all the time to lame AIM users :p
In ICQ, just goto add/invite users to your contact list and there is a blank for AOL Screen Name.

Voila.

Go multi-protocol. I've used Trillian, Gaim and Miranda IM. Trillian is by far the most convenient and feature-rich, if a bit bloated.

I installed Gaim a while back and decided to try out my old icq number. Worked in AIM no problem, though sadly buddy lists were locally stored back then :)

I heard ICQ can talk with AIM or AIM talks with ICQ, it should work but I haven't tried it yet.
