Using multiple mice on one PC?

Right now I'm using a Logitech MX500 for gaming and a Microsoft Trackball for everything else. Problem is, I can't install the software for both simultaneously.

I like both the features from Logitech Mouseware and MS Intellipoint (namely the extra navigation buttons and such)... what can I do??

Is there a "universal software" that lets me take advantage of the features of both brands of mice?

Who uses the software anyways. Every mouse I've used, never really needed it to work. Uninstall it and windows will run 2 mice just fine. I'm thinking about getting a track ball for everyday use. And using a mouse for gaming.

Agree with Nacelle - example - laptops have touchpads and trackpoints - and you can attach a mouse and have both at the same time. My desktop has a mouse and digitizing pad on one connection - I can use either the wireless mouse or stylus - no problem. Trying to use both at the same time does, however, cause wierdness - but no harm.

TechNet has a "dual Mouse" program for Vista. I downloaded it, but havn't played with it yet.
The filename is Windows_Miltipoint.msi

I use a MX 700 wireless mouse and a hard wired mouse with no problems. I am only running software for the wireless mouse though. I use wireless for most things except gaming where I use the hard wired mouse for no latency. My mac powerbook I have a trackpad, external mouse, and a graphic tablet which has it's own mouse too, all working at once.

I'd assume your problem is just with the software features since I have used both a trackball and mouse at the same time on XP machines.

I've run two meeces but always with the same drivers (Logitech in the olden days but Microsoft for some time now). I wonder if you could possibly use your two diff'rent drivers if one was attached via PS/2 and one via USB?

I've got a Logictech LX7 and a Microsoft Intellimouse Mouse Optical on my system. Both have drivers installed and both work (even at the same time though that's useless). Both are USB too ... dunno why you can not install your drivers. I've had my neighbor's PS/2 mouse attached as well. Are you using serial interfaces? (I'd be surprised if the MX500 is even available in a serial interface.)

No.. definitely not serial :p

I tried installing both drivers before - I had the logitech drivers/software installed, but when I try to install the MS software, it would force an uninstall of the Logitech drivers/software.

Maybe if I tried it the other way around it would work?
Do you remember how you installed your drivers separately w/o conflicts?

Try this - install the drivers without the hardware. Then hot plug each one in turn.

Not sure why XP drivers (built in) for HID won't work? I can hot plug as many rodents as I have USB ports and no drivers are installed. ???

The native XP drivers do in fact work, but the "fancy" mice that I have happen to have extra buttons and such, which are not fully functional unless I install the specialized software and drivers for them :(

Fancy - schmancy - I knew there was a reason to ignore all those extra knobs and switches. :)

Hey when you guys are talking about having two mice working at the same time, is there anything that allows you to have two pointers? Because for some reason that would be awesome, dont ask me the reasons, practicallity or method but id give it the thumbs up.
