Using MaxBlast 3 software (Maxtor) to Ghost a Small Drive to Large One?

Is it always better off to ghost a small 40 GB maxtor drive (D740X) to a new 80 GB maxtor drive (6Y080P0) (yes, P means that it's an 8 MB cache) with the MaxBlast 3 software that came with the new drive, or should I try to find Norton Ghost? Suggestions or opinions are requested and appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know if it's better or worse, but I did just finish using Maxblast 3 to do almost exactly the same thing you are contmeplating and it worked fine for me.

If 1 of your drives is a Maxtor, why not use the free MaxBlast, instead of paying for ghost? It works.

I thought so - I don't want to spend any $$ on getting the Norton Ghost, and wanted to be sure whether it's better off using MaxBlast or Norton Ghost, and now that I have my answers, I can go ahead and play with my new hard drive. Thanks for the input, guys.

Following this thread I have a question:

Do all recent versions of Norton Ghost support backup to NTFS formatted volumes? I know it'll read an NTFS and backup to CD's, but when you have 40GB to backup, CD's get a bit cumbersome. however, I have a new 120GB drive that I'd like to Ghost to..but it's NTFS formatted.....Will it work?

If not, will the MaxBlast software ghost an NTFS formatted RAID array to an NTFS formatted Maxtor 120GB drive?

Thanks....

I have somewhat a similar situation. I made a post but didn't get much of a response.

I have a 40gig maxtor and a new 80 gig maxtor trying to clone the 40 to the 80. Everything seems to clone fine but when I put the 80 gig drive in as the boot drive it starts bootup then gets to a screen and says "Searching for IDE boot record...OK"

What does that mean? It just sits there. I can plug the 40 back in and restart and it'll boot just fine.

So, what's the word on this?

While Norton Ghost (older version) doesn't support backup to NTFS formatted drives, will the MaxBlast software?

I wanted to try it..but wasn't sure...
