Using LCD monitors from Laptops....

There are a whole bunch of 12-14inch laptop LCDs on eBay. Is there any way I can get these to work with my computer? I really don't know much about that type of stuff, but is there an adapter for something like that?

Thanks for ANY information you guys may provide!

The bottom line is that your better off just purchasing an LCD designed to work w/ your PC than to try and get a laptop screen to work on your desktop, pretty much the only thing all the laptop screens on ebay are good for is replacing a damaged screens in a laptop or setting up some kind of custom video soln. Hope this helps.... 🙂

Well I am looking at setting up a computer in my car, so I don't think a normal LCD would be a viable option. I guess I should have specified that earlier to avoid confusion. 🙂

From your response, I guess it's not really a simple solution, but does anyone know what I would need?

Thanks!

Yeah, you need about a $200 inverter.

Q: How can I stick a laptop LCD in my desktop case?

A:You need (at minimum) a controller. Laptop LCDs do not interface directly to VGA. You may also need an inverter for the backlight.

Q: Where can I get a controller for a laptop LCD?

A: EarthLCD has them. Expect to pay a couple hundred for it. You can also buy complete kits there.

Q: Can this actually be done? It sounds very difficult!

A: Yes. It's been done, by tiberius. (no link currently available)
