Using laptop dvdrom on regular ide controller

Like the topic states, I would like to use a dvdrom on a regular ide controller. What do I need to do? Is there a converter w/ power source thingy?

I've never done it with CD-ROMs but for hard drives you need an adapter like this.

what type of connecter is on the CD-ROM? is it like a miniature IDE connector? and is there a separate power connector?

Laptop hard drives have a small IDE connecter that has some of the pins for power.

EDIT: oh, and welcome to the forums.
