For USB, try the Kingwins (Newegg has 'em). The aluminum ones are pretty nice (plastic use Cypress, aluminum use Prolink). Whatever you do, don't get one with a ALi bridge!

No software is needed if you're using a modern OS. Just plug it in via usb and it'll show up in "My Computer" as a drive.

If you're using an older OS, such as, Windows 98, you'll need a driver.

Um, it's USB. PLUG AND PLAY. Just hook it up and Windows XP will recognize it as a "USB Mass Storage Device"

As far as how it works...I love it. I've backed up some of my more crucial files to it because I know I can. Plus, I'm never gonna fill 20GB with just songs. :(

Uhh did you mean firewire? If you want to use firewire, you can, but I believe Apple no longer ships a firewire cable with their iPods, so you'll have to buy one separately.

If you did mean firewall, well a firewall won't affect your iPod usage at all (at least it shouldn't).

Nice choice on the iPod. I bought a 6GB mini (2nd gen) last week, and I love it.
You have firewire but no USB? Mine is the other way around.

To use the iPod as a portable HDD, you may have to do the following (for a USB connection anyway):

-Connect your iPod to your PC (or MAC)
-Open iTunes
-Go EDIT>PREFERENCES
-Select the "iPod" tab
-At the bottom is the "Enable Disk Use" Option.

If you check the "Enable Disk Use" option, you should be able to use the iPod like a thumb drive. It should appear in My Computer as a Removable Disk.

Hope that helps
