Using Google Earth Offline?

I'm taking a trip with my laptop soon and was wondering if it was possible to just use the laptop as my "GPS" using Google Earth. Is there a way to save the maps and whatnot to my computer so I can simply follow them when I'm on the road? I'll be spotting at an airport so it helps to be able to figure out where the good spots are with the aerial image overlay. It'd help if I could plug a to/from location and have it give me directions also.

Is this possible to do offline? Is there any other program that could help me?
