Using ethernet ports of WIFI router in repeater mode

Hello,

I have a Internet enabled WIFI router at my home and i have a TV which is on another floor and it has Ethernet port . I am thinking of buying a new router(mostly Dlink dap 1250) and configure it in WIFI repeater mode .My query is that i want to confirm that if i connect the TV to the new "WIFI router in repeater mode" 's Ethernet port and be able to access the Internet.

I think you would need a repeater bridge. I think a repeater only repeats the wireless signal.

Why not buy the Dlink DAP-1522, put it in access point mode, plug it into the ethernet port you have and plug the tv into the DAP-1522. You don't need a repeater if you have an ethernet port, just a separate AP using the same wireless SSID. Plus, repeater's speed is usually halfed from the original source, this avoids that.

Actually any wireless router that has the firewall and DHCP server disabled will work for you.

Yeah, nearly any Wi-Fi router should be able to act as a wireless bridge in that manner. Best to get the manual or check if they offer an emulator on their support site to confirm bridge or WDS mode.

In order to connect the TV to your Wireless Network you need a network device that can act as a Driver-less Wireless adapter connecting to the TV Ethernet port.

The good kind are Wireless Routers that can act as Wireless Bridges.

Very few Routers can be configured this way as is.

Many Routers that can be flashed with DD-WRT can do it.

I spoke with D-link support and they advised me to use dwl 2100ap (in bridge mode)

This when flashed with DD-WRT might do the same for 3rd of the cost.
