Ok I'm just curious if you guys have done this before? If so how are the results? I know the resolution will be limited when using the tv as a monitor but I'd like to know what quality I could expect before I build a htpc. I know alot probably depends on the video card i get. Lets just say a Radeon 9100 since I have one laying around. Would go up to a 9600 if it would make a big difference.

long answer... what tv model? I use a 9100 right now on sdtv, you might try a 9600 or 6600gt from nvidia for better quality

I think that TVs that can be used as a monitor via dvi/hdmi have a resolution at 1280x720 (or 768)

A 9100 should be able to use that resolution and still play video. It wouldn't hurt to try.

Also I just want to make damn sure.. There is no chance of getting burn-in on a DLP tv right? Thats one of the main reasons I went dlp. That and for the $2200 I spent no cheap plasma could touch it.

Yes, you can, and it will look suprisingly well on an HD set. You are also correct that you will not get burn in on a DLP.

Don't expect it to just work like a plug and play monitor though. It's likely going to take a lot of tweaking. Download an app called powerstrip. Many video cards don't have the res of TVs as options so powerstrip will allow you to set custom resolutions, etc, until you get it looking good. I've never done it first hand on a big screen or HD screen(I just have a shotty 27inch), but I've heard many people have had good luck with the samsung DLPs as monitors.

I have the 61" Samsung.
You can use it as a monitor. The problem is the lamp only has a certain life. I watch t.v hours and mine is still going strong.

It has a pc connection on the back of it, but I haven't been able to find the cables for it.

If you use DVI it will look pretty sharp, like a normal monitor.
