Using DDR3 1600 on a 775 Mobo that supports only DDR3 1333

I have an Asus P5G41C-M motherboard that supports DDR3 1333. I have some GSkill DDR3 1600 memory (2x2) I've located timings for it to run stabily on a msi p43-c51 which is 7 7 7 20. Would those timings work with that memory and my Asus? I have a e8500 that I want to OC to a rather conservative 15% but I don't want to have to spend hours trying to configure this memory to work.

Maybe. You should run memtest 86+ to make sure it's stable though. 9-9-9-24 seems to be a very common timing for G.Skill DDR3-1333, just so you know.

I dunno, I don't want to waste to much time on it testing out settings. Times money and I already have a stable setup.

My main inquiry though is would the settings on the MSI Motherboard work with the Asus

Though they are different chipsets and memory controller hubs they were released a few months apart and have similar specs. Being out of the loops for many year due to using strictly a laptop I'm a little bit overwhelmed. I Memeroy I just got, GSkills Ripsaw F3-16000CL9D-4GBRH, is suppose tio be some Kick Ass memory and I'd like to use it, especially after the deal I got on it but I don't want to labor getting it to work on my system.

I guess what I'm looking for is a little reassurance that it will work using the same timings as the MSI board

If you don't want to spend time tweaking, then just set the timings to 9-9-9-24 and call it a day. You can always try 7-7-7-20 though.

Either way, it's a really good idea to run a 24hr or at least overnight pass of Memtest86+ 4.10 to make sure that the RAM is good (and also verify the timings you set).

So you are looking at two nights of testing, potentially. First night, try 7-7-7-20. If that fails, try 9-9-9-24. If that fails, then you are potentially looking at an RMA.

It should work, go to your BIOS memory Mhz and if it shows high figures like 1700 or 1900 then ya you can use DDR3 1600 on your mobo. gl My mobo it maxes at 1969Mhz DDR2 lol which doesnt exist,, soo I assume I can use DDR3 sticks on my mobo is this true ?

First off, no. What is most likely to happen is that since the Memory Controller is limited to DDR3-1333 by the MoBo, the BIOS SHOULD show his memory at full capacity, running at 1333MHz because of the Memory Controller down-clocking the memory to meet the highest allowed stock speed. Now obviously, if the MoBo will allow him to overclock, his chances of getting a better OC from the 1600MHz should be better then if he bought 1333MHz memory.

Second off, no. You cannot put a round peg in a square hole, i.e. You cannot put DDR3 Memory into DDR2 slots.

[sarcasm]A low level format will also not help you in this instance, neither will defragging your SSD to align the sectors.[/sarcasm]

and you can defrag a SSD ,, it wont break. But I guess the sensus here is not to defrag a SSD warning!! soo I say warning too.. but you can do it, its not likie it wont work,,, anyhow,, not that Im saying for people to do it cuz Im not. I got 3 infractions for dat LOL,

DO NOT DEFRAG SSDs

DEFRAG mechanical hard drives 🙂

So why does my mobo go up to 1969Mhz DDR2 ,,,, whats the fastest DDR2 memory ? 1900 ? lol

Everest says my mobo has DDR3 1333 compatibility.

So it will eat DDR3 1333 will it also work with DDR3 1600Mhz

The people who made your motherboard specifically state that it uses DDR2 only.

[sarcasm]On the other hand, you know what go ahead and buy that DDR3 memory and let us know what happens! [/sarcasm]
