Using computer as a phone

Is there a way to plug your phone line into your computers modem, and then use the computer as a phone? as in using like a headset to make calls from your home phone, just through the computer?

edit: actually i've wondered this myself. lots of sound cards have a Telephone Answering Device line, so i would assume it's possible.

Yup, you can send faxes this way too.

You need a microphone or headset though
