Using CMI8738 5.1 sound card: No Sub-Woofer/Center with CD's

As the title says, we get All channels with DVD's, games, and MP3's, but with music CD's the channel for Sub-Woofer and Center Speaker do not seem to work.

1) Is this a function of the CD files not supporting 5.1?
2) Is it a function of the card's 5.1software not supporting CD files?
3) Is it a problem with the card?
 
CDs are really only two channel audio souces. Thats how they were recorded and thats all they were designed to do. You're not hearing anything from the center or the sub because your not supposed to. Some CD software lets you force a 5.1 mix...but generaly this isn't the best solution.
