Using an 802.11 PCI card as a router...

So

Lifer
Our campus network does not allow the user to login via any standardized method, instead using a webpage, so there is no way to set up a normal wireless router.

Basically, I need to be able to share my internet connection between my wired university connection and my laptop. I have on hand a -g PCI card, which I was hoping to use in order to make my desktop act as a WAP.

I'd also really like to be able to do some sort of encryption and if possible, be able to control access by mac address. I've tried windows XP's built in WZC with no luck. AFAIK, ad-hoc doesn't do what I want.

When playing around w/ WZC and networking, I tried to bridge the two connections to no avail, and windows refused to turn on internet connection sharing.

Has anyone managed to use an XP pc as a real WAP? Is there any decent software for said purpose?

No, I saw that when I was first looking, an ad-hoc network doesn't have the security I need and can't to ICS.

Just thought I'd check. Yeah the security is gonna be a ah heck. I'm still not sure why the ics won't turn on for you though, that's kind of interesting.

Just thinking aloud ... what if you did the ad hoc net then did a remote over to your desktop ?
