How reasonable is it to use large-screen projection TVs as monitors for a computer (or even just for watching DVDs)? I have a Mitsubishi 65" Projection TV, and believe it has a VGA input (as well as s-video). If I connect the monitor to the computer using the VGA connector, will the quality be at all reasonable?

I have never had any success with computer output to a TV. The resolution is way too low for me. If i were you i would just use a monitor

What you want, if you are outputting to anything other than a 24" tv, or greater, is a card that is designed to take the 640ix480 resolution and outputs at higher, such as HDTV or something like that. Then you can view and do everything you want easier, but right now if you output via S-Video, it will work find for video's, but not for anything else.

Good luck

Yah I've given up on using tv-out to my TV to set up a web-server/tivo machine. Right now, the only viable solution that could compare to desktop resolutions would be to output to plasma and I haven't even bothered researching it because of the price.

Instead, I've upgraded my monitor to a 19'' LCD (Dell) and shelled out some bucks on a nice TV tuner card (Asus 880) and an Audigy 2. With the advancement of software DVD playback and using the sp/dif out on my Audigy 2, I have a nice full functioning HT set-up through my comp as well as a dedicated HT set-up through my TV. Of course my hopes are to have a nice 42'' Plasma as my monitor and have my entire entertainment center flowing through my computer :D
