Using a telephone to burn down a place

In the movies it's often cited the use of a telephone to start a fire.
That could be dangerous today with telemarketers if the perp used a wee bit too much accelerant and did not escape in time!

Seems that cell phones are being used for suicide bombings in the East as well. A few months ago a suicide bomber was nixed prematurely due to a spam text. I guess they never thought of using a customized ring profile with a little better circuit to trigger upon its arrival. 😉

Anyone with an iphone 4S care to ask Siri these questions? :biggrin:
 
Before going through TSA security, check in a bag. This bag contains an explosive device with one of many wireless technologies attached. Go through security. Get on the plane. Hit the detonator at a time of your choosing. Seems easy enough.

I can't imagine it would be too hard to get some kind of explosive device in a checked bag onto a plane. For example, they let you check in bottles of liquid.

Heck, you could just have a timer on it or an altimeter. Nobody says you have to actually get on the plane.

For ultimate irony, have your device scan for wifi devices. When the number decreases significantly (when the people on the plane turned their phones off), then detonate.

GPS module + microcontroller + battery.
Then you can have it watch for speed or altitude as triggers.

Checked bags are usually searched, either by hand (small airports), or by x-ray (larger airports). I would imagine they go through an explosives sniffer too, so hiding an explosive in a checked bag is nearly impossible these days.

So far as not checking in for the flight, the airlines have checks and balances to stop that. Everyone who checked a bag had better be on board that aircraft, or the plane doesn't leave the gate until that bag gets pulled. Sorry, no unattended baggage on board.

This is part of the reason why Al Quaeda was trying to sneak explosives inside of printers, on a cargo flight to the USA. The idea isn't to kill a bunch of people, but to inflict TERROR on a bunch of people. To them, they don't care whether they kill 2 or 2,000, so long as they've terrorized a shitload of people.

And actually, the easiest way, if you want to blow up a plane, is to hit it with some mortars, while they're lined up (like ducks) waiting to take off, at the end of the runway. Shoot, I've seen 8 to 10 jets waiting to take off at once. Hit the first one, hit the last one, then start walking your mortars up and down the line. You could take out hundreds of people, on planes full of jet fuel, that are completely helpless. 😱

I thought that scenario up, the last time I flew home to visit Mom, while I was in my plane, waiting at the end of the runway/taxiway area, for our turn to take off. Hopefully someone at TSA has thought of it too! :hmm:

That said most propellants show up like a sore thumb in common carry on scanners. This is why the (terrorists) have become somewhat more creative. (but have failed thankfully!)
 
If I rig a phone call to burn my house down, put the number on the do not call list, then a telemarketer calls it, can I sue them for burning my house down?

Do not call list is useless because of lack of enforcement. It actually makes calls worse because callers have access to it and know the numbers there will be answered because a real person goes to the effort to put their number on it - to not be called! It's like clicking on *remove me from your mailing list* on spam! :biggrin:

I do miss the days of year 'round NYC as our homeport though. (even though winters could be rough)

Hmm I've never thought of using a phone line for that, but yeah, I guess there is enough current to do it. Or if you want to get creative just make a coil that will pull on a piece of metal to trigger a switch. The line is always live, so a simple short may not do the trick as it will just cut out right away, but when a phone comes in the voltage increases, so if the coil is done right it wont have enough power to pull the switch but when that call comes in, it sure will.

The phone company is going to see some serious shit in the DMS. :biggrin:
 
The ring voltage is plenty of trigger without having the sensitivity high enough for a false trigger from a cell phone or even a trucker rolling by with co phased Wilson 1ks and 5kW dead key. :biggrin:
 
Ring voltage is easy enough to start a fire. Don't tone out a wall field by licking your finger and running it down the blocks with a wand in the other hand. Bad idea.

I'm LMAO at the moment. My old house, basement, running a phone line to the kids room. That SUCKED! At the time, I thought to myself, "that's about the stupidest thing I've ever done."

When I flew last time the guy in front of me checked a window airconditioner. I'm sure an xray would help find out if that was dangerous.
 
Actually, cell phones have been blowing people up for many years now.

Yahya Ayyash was a Palestinian bomb maker that revolutionized the art of suicide bombings. He is largely considered the greatest bomb maker the Palestinians ever had and was responsible for dozens if not hundreds of innocent deaths, not counting those yet to come due to his technology.

In 1996 an Israeli spy tricked a friend into giving Ayyash a cell phone. When Ayyash made a call, his muthafucking head blew off! HAHAHA! I never tire of reading that story.
