after I installed comcast on my comp, I can't connect to my 2wire router anymore. i don't use qwest anymore. the system won't renew my IP address with the router. i resetted it. even with a wifi/wired connection I can't get inside my 2wire modem for configuration.

once I can reconnect my modem, any idea who I will connect my wired modem to the wireless modem/router for wifi in the house?

You cannot use a 2wire DSL modem/router as a standalone router. They only work with the built in DSL modem on the WAN side. You will need to get a standalone router for your Comcast connection.

how are you so sure? qwest team assured that it could work. the program features on the router are very user-adjustable.

anyone else?

i'm pretty sure I can get it running.

but anyone, is there a router that offers both DSL/Cable/wireless with ultra advanced options?

otherwise I want a stand alone router that is easy to use, yet offers advanaced options.

50-100 USD

If you mean a Combo Modem/Router that can do both DSL and Cable.?

The answer is NO.

There are combos, like the one you already have, that can do DSL and Routing.

Some of these combos are decent at best, None of them is advanced.

There is No interest in given free advanced, these units are given by DSL providers to bypass PPPOE software authentication problems. It is cheaper to add a Router to the DSL modem, than to endure the cost of few support calls concerning authentication and unstable connection.

In general, a combo is a bad idea since with changes in the system, or if any thing goes wrong, you get stuck, like you currently are.

Get your self a nice Wireless Cable/DSL Router and go on with life.

Hmmm....I just switched over to Qwest DSL (Adelphia is way to expensive) and have that exact 2Wire modem/router. I found this thread because I was sitting here contemplating the $8 monthly rental as opposed to buying it. Guess I wont buy it afterall if it only works with Qwest service and cant run as a standalone router.

So, I can just buy the one JackMDS mentioned for $40 and send Qwest back their junk? But then I would still have to rent a modem from Qwest right?

Yap, you need a stand alone DSL Modem (to buy about $65, or $30 ebay), and a Wireless Cable/DSL Router (to buy about $40).

Worth your while? A personal call.

If you decide in the future to change ISP once more, the Router would be good regardless.

I am very happy with Qwest's service although I have only had it live for a few days. Dont know why exactly, but the speeds I am getting are about 4x faster than Adelphia/Comcast. Adelphia was serving me up about 256 down while Qwest is doing me at about 1.5 down.

I do already own a Netgear router I would like to use. Where can I purchase a supported Qwest DSL modem? Let me guess....Qwest?:p

Thanks for the quick reaply Jack:thumbsup:
