Using a printer with Standard (built-in wireless 802.11b/g)

I'm getting a printer with Standard (built-in wireless 802.11b/g). If i want to use the wireless feature of the printer does the printer have to be connected (wired or wirelessly) to a network. Or can i just get a wireless USB adapter for my laptop or pc so they can print to this printer. I currently don't have a network but just want to use the printer wirelessly.

The point of having a wireless nic in a printer is so that you can print without being wired. As long as your laptop or desktop PC has a wireless nic, you will be able to print.
 
It depends on the printer and the wireless network card if it will work. See if the printer supports "ad-hoc" mode. This allows two wireless clients to communicate.
 
It's the HP 7410 which does seem to support Ad hoc. Do i need a special usb 802.11 adapter for the laptop to use ad-hoc? Is there one that anyone here recommends that is reasonably priced?

Almost all Wireless Client USB/Cards support Ad-Hoc.

If the printer is in the same room as the Computer, any card would do.

I.e buy the cheapest the you can find.
