Using a PPGA CPU on a newer motherboard....

Is anyone else having problems with the new VIA chipset (the one that DOES support the Taulatins) not running the old PPGA Celerons?

The Biostar M6VCG got retired (because it didn't support Taulatin CPUs) in favor for the M6VCT and a lot of people are snapping them up because they're under $50. A few people are tring to use their old PPGA Celerons on them and they don't POST. I tried it myself and no go. I then tried a Microstar motherboard with the same chipset and got the SAME RESULT!!! Is it the chipset or is it that the manufacturers are just not bothering with the 2.0 core voltage option???

Probably going to be in the next BIOS update. Although the chipset could just be built for SPGA chips. I don't know.

Bump....

I know that for the Intel chipsets, they dropped PPGA support from the i815EP, but retained it for the i815E.

Originally I thought it was optional for the motherboard manufacturer to support PPGA in addition to FC-PGA/Tualatin, but I have seen documentation where leaving off the i752 from the i815EP was not the only difference from the i815E.

I can't really say anything about the VIA chipsets though, as their documentation is not as thorough as Intel's.

You can say that again!!! :p

Well, I'm just going to "assume" that it's a chipset thing because the problem is too consistant. Several boards from two different manufacturers are not working with several known working PPGA Celerons.

C'est la vie! Those people who need a PPGA compatible board better snap up these few M6VCG boards that I have left. :p
