I am just along for the information. I too have been wondering this. I don't think that serial connection would work though. The only thing I could think of is run a virtual desktop via ethernet.

Right now the only way is to hook up your pc and notebook to a network via router and use remote desktop or VMWare. as long as you use 100mbit wired or 54g wireless you should be able to stream videos and music to the notebook no problem, not to mention any other much less intensive tasks. The advantage of this system is that you can keep your desktop system tucked away anywhere you want and only have the notebook on your desk. I would do this myself but I currently have a NICE desktop and a NICE notebook and don't want to give up either plus I have a spacious 19" dell P990 which is very pretty.

BTW, remote desktop is built into WinXP. You need to enable it on both computers VMWare is a small program to download but the advantage is that you can access the other computer through your browser and both computers need not have WinXP.

What your looking for is Maxivista. It ain't free, but it works well. Very well, in fact. Run it on your PC and your notebook. When both are connected to your LAN, the notebook will show up as a secondary display on your pc. I suppose you could select the notebook as the primary display. Give it a go... there's a free trial. It's like fiddy bux to buy.
