If I recall correctly, you need to have a crossover cable to the uplink port of the switch from the modem.
Is there anyway to make it go from modem to a switch with a regular patch cable?

My brother had a guy do this to his network when he was having issues with the Barricade router.
Now he is having different issues and I am trying to get it so he can bypass the router again, till I can go up and fix his problem.

If your going from the modem to a standard port on the switch use a patch cable. If your going to the uplink, you are correct, you would need a crossover.

As long as the DSL service allows you to pul more than 1 IP this will work. If they only allow you to pull 1 IP, then only one PC will work at a time.

Ok. I didnt know you could plug straight into the regular port and still have sharing. I always assumed that it had to be to the WAN port. But now that I think ablout it it makes sense.
Thanks

If the Modem has NAT in it (like some of the old Cisco), then it is OK.

Otherwise with Switch only?

As the gentlemen above said, you can share if you have two Independent External IPs.

Or if you use Sygate Software NAT.
