Hey gang I want to be able to use a different theme for XP but I don't want to use StyleXP, is there any other way I can do this? Another program or some sort of registry/inf "tweak" ;)

Any help would be appreciated

you have to switch out the uxtheme.dll file....i got a hacked copy of uxtheme.dll that lets you use themes......all you gotta do is place a copy of it in the C:\windows\system32\dllcache folder and then rename the copy of it in C:\windows\system32 to uxtheme.bak and then put the hacked uxtheme.dll into there and reboot windows will most likely come up with a complaint saying to insert the windows cd 2 times just click cancel and do the reboot and it will work

UxTheme.dll
Just download the hacked UxTheme.dll above, boot into safe mode, go to c:\windows\system32 & rename the original UxTheme.dll to UxTheme.000 (or whatever) then copy the hacked UxTheme.dll you downloaded into c:\windows\system32, REBOOT.
Thats it!

alright i tried that, rebooted into safe mode with command prompt and tried to replace the dll but it was in use by a process. i had styles xp installed previously but uninstalled it. then changed theme to the standard xp theme. any reason why i can't replace the dll, and how to fix it

You cannot replace the original UxTheme.dll.

You have to rename it to something else like Uxtheme.000, then copy the one you downloaded into the c:\windows system32 folder.

All in Safe Mode of course. ;)

Basically you can't replace it because it's still in use in the "c:\windows\system32\dllcache" folder. Change the name there first, then you may replace it in the "c:\windows\system32\" folder.

I didn't have sex in safe mode:Q

What I meant to say is that:
you're fine, you can still do it in normal mode. I'm talking about replacing the UxTheme.dll file of course;)

edit: ok I admit it that was lame.
(Go to bed you idiot!)
