I don't see why it wouldn't work. I just have to figure out how to control startup/shutdown. I think those car pc power supply should be able to do that. I'll use a touchscreen to control the frontend UI. The box should be able to play my ripped mkv files, not that it'll look any better on a small 7" screen but save me from having to re-encode them. What do you guys say?

would work well for a pre-made solution...just need to figure out the power supply. if you have an inverter hooked up, you may be able to set the bios to start up when power is restored.

stick xbmc on it and call it a day

edit: yeah, only watch stuff while stopped! would be nice for music though

You're car already has a pretty stout 12v power supply, it's just a matter of running wiring and solder in a plug to connect to the Eee pc's power jack. If you're thoughtful in where you tap into the vehicle's wiring you won't even need to worry about startup and shutdown controls, just be sure to set the power management to a very conservative profile and let it go into hibernation on its own.

I believe the eee box requires 19v so looks like I'm going to need a car pc powersupply to up the voltage. Since it requires a PS might as well get an intelligent one that can control startup/shutdown.
