Using a 360 controller for PC

Hey all, I recently got a MadCatz USB 360 controller for my comp, I let windows search the windows update to find the drivers for it and it downloaded the 360 controller driver. Everything works fine except for one nagging detail. The drivers set up the controller as a midi device and when I plug it in my computer essentially goes mute. Any ideas on how to fix this?

bump, still haven't found anything out about this. Curious to know if any other xbox controller users experienced this problem.

Check your audio output settings under control panel, AFAIK you can plug in a headset to a 360 controller, so maybe when you plug it in it's routing all the audio there.

This is exactly what happens. When the driver detects a 360 controller it automatically routes all sounds into the headphone jack, i dont know if there is a way to get around it. I just know it was a pain in the ass for us to code a work around for in the lil game project i've been working on.

That's what I was thinking, unfortunately I have no headset :(

EDIT: Tinkered around with the audio settings and disabled the game pad, testing now

Well I just disabled the game pad as an audio device and everything works perfectly now! Grid is much more fun to play with the controller vs ASWD keys lol

I bought one but I don't know if I want to open it. Do they work with XP x64? I installed the software and it went into the (x86) folder. And does it show up like a regular gamepad to games? Is there any way to program the buttons?

the Xbox controller is driven by MS's xinput API. Since it's made by MS I assume it should be fully compatible with most newer version of windows. It's probably included with the latest DirectX pack for your operating system.

You can use Xpadder to custom map the controls and I'm pretty sure it shows up as a regular game pad in most games. Well, most games now a days support xinput which is starting to become the standard for windows PC games.

is there any software out there that lets you adjust dead zone and sensitivity on the 360 pad? not all games let you adjust this in the game and microsoft's drivers are pretty lacking.

XBCD is a great help for making things work better for the controller. It will allow rumble to actually work properly in many games. Xpadder is also a great program. It allows me to use my 360 controller as a mouse.

Does the XBCD driver allow the 360 controller to be recognized by games as a regular joystick, or is it still that Xinput stuff??
