I am curious if anyone has been successfully installing WHS 2011 OS on a 60 Gig SSD? And how to install WHS 2011 OS on a 60 Gig SSD? The reason that I want the OS on a 60 Gig SSD is mainly because it is a lot quieter and consume less power. I am not worry too much about performance and the cost of the 60 Gig SSD. Thanks in advance for everyone inputs.

I haven't tried it on the final version, but for the RC there was a hack for accomplishing this. So it's possible, it just requires some extra work on your part.

WHS constantly does things, it does not going to Sleep.

Thus SSD might reach EOL faster.

If you "Printing Money" :p , then go for it, otherwise it is a real waste.

Exactly what he said...

Alternatively you can install WHS onto a 60GB non-SSD drive. I installed v1 onto a 5400RPM drive to cut down on heat. To do this you have to start the install on a larger drive (per requirements). When the install reboots the computer for the first time, don't let it boot back into the installer. Use your HDD ghosting app of choice (I used Acronis Disk Director) to copy the partition to the 60GB drive. Then boot that one instead. It will complete the install.

You can also make an image of the install partition at that time to keep for a reinstall (I used Acronis True Image) or do the whole process again.

Not sure if this method works on 2011, but it worked fine on v1.

Yeah SSD on WHS is a huge waste. For one thing even a midrange pair of 7200rpm 1tb drives will saturate a gigabit ethernet connection for data transfer, and for another thing, once WHS is booted, faster access to the OS files isn't going to make any appreciable difference to the systems using the resources over your network. Save that SSD for a better purpose.

Thank you everyone for the great advices. I guess it would be a waste to use SSD if SSD will reach it EOL in a few years. So HDD it is.
