Using 1280 res and black bars

I own a Viewsonic VX2025WM LCD monitor and am using an Nvidia video card. This monitor looks best at 1680 but in games I don't always get the greatest performance this way. I want to be able to scale down to a 1280 res and have the black bars on the side. Whenever I try to set it to a fixed aspect ratio or centered display option it always stretches the screen. Is this some bug and is there some way to fix it?
It's driving me nuts!

I don't think they ever fixed this problem.

You'll NEVER get it to scale the way you want it. For some reason it will ALWAYS stretch it to the full size.

Even if you change the setting in the Nvidia CP.
I guess your out of luck...

Other then this problem, I think the VX2025wm is a great monitor

The funny thing is that I used to able to do this... awhile ago. I should should roll back to an old driver or something... that means decreased performance but... I need to figure out what driver I was using...

Try 1280x800 and just let it stretch
