I woke up at11:49PM last night, did some stuff and went to bed at 3:35AM, turned out the light and 4 minutes later the earthquake hit. I guess I was already in a dream, it was a scary moment grafted onto my dream, but I was wide awake the second it hit. I figured 3.6 and centered about 5 miles from me, just based on the intensity, the pattern and how long it lasted. I just looked it up and it was 3.6 and centered about 5 miles from me. Dang!

I have studied earthquakes some, own a couple of books specifically about earthquakes. It's a fascinating subject, especially the really big earthquakes in history. There are some amazing accounts in the literature.

My books:

Earthquakes in Human History: The Far-Reaching Effects of Seismic Disruptions by Zeilinga de Boer

When the Earth Trembles - Haroun Tazzief (I read this one in the 1970's, a library copy, and bought a copy of my own over a year ago, it's an amazing book by a vulcanologist)

Have never bought a single lottery ticket. I don't recall gambling except low stakes poker among "friends," which I really enjoy.

Like I heard a TV news anchor say a month or so ago when the mega lottery pot went over $1billion: "If you don't play you can't lose." ;)

Anyway, playing the lottery is 100% depending on luck. My take on that quake was NOT luck. It was knowledge + perception.
