Uses for Infared Module Connector?

I am getting a new mobo with an IR connector. I was wondering if there is any practial use for this feature. I have a Palm, so maybe I can do something between the Palm and PC. Other than that, is it just another worthless feature?

BTW, anyone know where to buy the actual IR module? I can't seem to find one on the Net. I am probably using the wrong search critera.

Thanks.

Keep in mind that it will use an IRQ. I keep mine disabled.

But . . . they are used for printers and mice and some keyboards as well as links to PDAs.

Cool. I will use it to HotSync my Palm, rather than use the cradle.

Anyone know where to buy the actual port???

Bad idea to use infrared for synching a Palm on a desktop. It would be more reliable to use the serial cradle and MUCH, MUCH faster if you bought a USB cradle. Plus, if you're using Windows 2000 you'd had to update the Palm Desktop software because the infrared support is different in Windows 2000.

If use have large files like AvantGo and you want to spend some money, I'd suggest going for a USB cradle.

I only use infrared with my laptop.
