One of my resellers at work gave me an old board with a P1 166 on it.....I have an old box that it would run on....any uses for the thing come to mind? Just curious....
I would use it for a server of some kind by running Linux on it. that's pretty much the best use for slower computers these days, that I can think of anyway. What function your server runs is up to you, whether it be the link between your LAN and the internet, or that and an FTP server for your LAN, it's all up to you..
send it my way! I make use of old computers no problem!
"Linux" isn't a use in itself, so "Linux" isn't really a usefull reply in this case. If it were me, I wouldn't be able to think of any real use for a computer like that, except for installing starcraft and red alert on it so that friends can play against me when they come over.
Well if you're security conscious i'd say Linux firewall (or FreeBSD)
Although I do like that DOS gaming box idea 🙂 Lord knows there there are times I wish I could find my old copy of Masters of Orion or the older Might and Magic.
Because of a problem with one of my pc's, I had to go back to my Dell P/133, 80 megs ram, small hd, etc. I hooked it up to my DSL connection, and I was surprised at how fast is was, online That "old" Dell runs pretty smooth.
