User's Profile

When buying or selling items in the For Sale/Trade forum, is allowed to use fake First and Last names such as Flew High, you live in a city that does'nt exist and a state that's not listed at all??

Or is it only necessary to provide your real email address and that's it?

The First name and Last name are about as ridiculous as the one I saw tonight, while the other listings are just lesser of an example:

First Name: Flew
Last Name: High
Username: (Bingblangblungx2) *not real user name*
City: neeberland
Province/State: Other
Country: United States

If this is'nt allowed, please give me an email where I can reach someone that can remedy this situation 🙂
I thought you had to list everything correctly if you were buying/selling in the For Sale/Trade forum?

Profiles are required to be enabled.

Verification of the information probably is not done.

It would be prudent to contact the seller of an item and get the proper info in hand that you can check out.

Given the amount of people on FS/FT it would be impossible for the system to ensure that the information is valid; At that point it becomes a buyer beware situation.

It would be nice if all FS/FT people would have valid data in their profile; however, trolls will just put in reasonable info that may not be accurate.

You seem concerned but you have 2 different address's listed?

Your profile say's Nashville. Yet your Heatware say's McMinnville.

O I understand. Everyone needs to put the correct information except you.

TTT~! 😕

Sorry to inform you, but all Moderator badges have already been allocated for 2006. Please come back next year

Dang!! You've been registered here for 5 years and have over 2600 posts......... and are JUST NOW asking this ?? 😕

EDIT: In all seriousness, maybe this dude's account got hijacked ?

Damn Yogi..he's doing all he can to dig up something on you. I've been trying for years but haven't found anything yet 😉

When I was trading, he main concern was the email address. It had to match the one you were registered under.

I can certainly understand why some people do not want their real names and city displayed in their profile. I don't feel that is so much of a problem, if they give the proper email.

- I agree, it shouldn't be public information.

As always Caveat Emptor applies, as does common sense!

My profile here is BS; I don't want any Joe off the street knowing all my personal info.

But I have real EBay and Heatware feedback to back me up as a seller/buyer. If I'm buying something of the AT FS/FT forum, and the member is known to me (I've been here awhile) I don't think twice about it. If the member isn't known to me, I will email them and ask specific questions.

You've gotta be a smart buyer these days, Bubba.

this must have changed, back in the day traders expected the profile to be correct
this type of revelation would provoke many "added to my DNT list"

<shrugs>

Yep, a lot has changed, and not for the better.

Scammers are everywhere. Evey website you go to probably has some sort of adware/spyware ready to auto-load to your system.

Personal information of the simplest kind (email address) is resold within hours to spammers and scammers.

Even legitimate companies now participate in this type of "no effort" income generation.

I get two Home Theater type magazines; I get tons of spam email about HT-related products...not from good legitimate manuf's either. 🙁

These days, the TOS you "sign and agree to" just by purchasing a magazine subscription open you up to all forms of nastiness.

So yeah; my fake profile without real name is a good thing. I have a "junk" email account that I use for all forums and basic internet shopping. Very few people (my bank for example) know my "real" email addy.

I've always assumed it was supposed to be correct. I hide my last name but give it to anyone I deal with. I have also been signed up for spam, most likely from someone here. I wasn't able to get the IP so the Mods couldn't trace it.

i am curious, why do you need your bank to know your e-mail?
i have never even witnessed a situation where a client is contacted with email regarding some issues. usually its paper mail.

the only thing banks need emails is to spam it with useless newslaters regarding mortages, loans, credit lines and other financial stuff.
Am i wrong?

Some of us have embraced technology... my "real" email address is known to my bank, verizon, directv, my oil supplier, my ISP,... all the people I do business with online. Virtually all my bills are done online...
