Users of Tegra 4 tablet complain of overheating

Already two reviews complaining that the tablet overheated frequently. Guess they should have put a fan in it like the Shield.

Sounds like just the one tablet, not a problem with the chip in general. Though Nvidia did make a lot of bold claims.

I had devices with Tegra 2 and Tegra 3 and they sucked. Tegra 4 looks promising thanks to its 4 A15's, but they are clocked too high it seems like.

You have this with every device. And here the chip has nearly a direct connection to the surface.

Let's have a rundown of some of the comment highlights.

I was quite concerned when the unit overheated a lot after only 20 or 30 minutes of use.

I got it before launch and HEAT is the reason I returned it. By the camera on the back got so hot at times when doing almost nothing.

I had one that also got extremely hot, but mine also would quite frequently just power down and start up again, and it would just randomly freeze requiring a hard reboot.

Mine is overheating when I play 3D games but My Ipad 2 is also overheating when I play such games.....
But it's really too heat...

The heat coming from the left side of the tablet, as you mentioned, does get pretty warming, which definitely becomes uncomfortable but not unusable.

"uncomfortable" heat in a $500 tablet is just not acceptable I'm afraid. Looks like 1.6 GHz is just too high for this.

Right, so every device is burning your lap/hand etc. Funny I've never seen it elsewhere with the few popular tablets I've used (not sure about the performance difference of the typical samsung/idevice but they sure don't heat up much).

Its called install a fan on the tablet. Tegra 4 runs hotter than the competition, think of it as the GTX 480 of tablet processors.

BTW: Acer's tablets with Tegra 3 had the same problems. On the other hand the Transformer Prime with an ALU surface was much better.

I handle a lot of tablets. The hotest being iPad 3, but it wasn't all that much hotter than iPad 2 looking at the numbers, but people made a big deal about it when there wasn't one.

I'm not the biggest fan of tegra 4, I think Qualcomm are doing a much better job with S600/S800, but people like making a mountain out of a mole hill. We will have to see what independent reviewers say.

But if Nexus 10 is anything to go by, it will either throttle or run hot. We shall see though.
