Users of Pandora One

I was thinking of upgrading to Pandora One, but I have a few questions.

Do you get more variety and are there unlimited track skips? Like you can skip more tracks without Pandora telling you something like, " do to license BS you can only skip so many tracks."

Thanks!

but yeah, not unlimited skips- still 6/hr but I think the total skip limit is higher? I've never hit it

Well, the ads weren't a problem for me since I use adblock. The only thing I had a problem with was the friendly pop ups. I created a thread here asking how to get rid of that and it was a setting in my options. Now I seen a pop up and I don't see the setting anymore.

I have a script for Greasemonkey that allows me to download the songs, so if I upgrade I'll get a higher quality download. So I just may buy a year and see how it goes.

Thanks everyone!

Along with no ads you also get a better quality stream @ 192 kbit/s. I have tried many streaming services recently because my Pandora One sub was up for renewal. Primarily I tested out Rdio and MOG and I ended up re-upping my Pandora account. The others were fine for what they are but just aren't as strong at streaming as Pandora has been for me.

I'd take a look at Spotify. They have radio like Pandora, but they have unlimited skips.

...and Spotify's radio function is horrible.

I subscribe to both services. Spotify is at a real disadvantage if you want to listen to radio stations based on the artist.

I never liked Pandora stations because they would always devolve into playing top 20 music unless I was diligent about giving feedback. Spotify seems to give me much better results.

I also think that Spotify does a great job with recommendations in their Discover tab. I like that I can click around recommended artists and songs at my own pace.

Can you rewind the song or repeat it on any of these services?

Spotify let's you play whatever you want from their library. You can jog forward and backword through a song. The radio doesn't let you play the previous song but you could just go manually play it.

I'd happily pay for Pandora One, but only if it had a fix for Chromecast - I'd like to play it through my television/stereo, but with a nice plasma & lack of some sort of screen saver, I don't want burn in.

I have it just because it comes standard on my car.. Integrated with the center console screen.. The lack of variety is disappointing..

Not sure why people still use Pandora in this day and age when both Spotify and Google Music All Access are better.

I use Google Music too, especially for specific playlists I want to hear during serious listening times. But Pandora's random playlist for any given station I create works for me when I don't want to keep choosing different playlists (i.e. when I'm at work)

There's times when I want to listen to nothing but Pantera so then I simply play from my own personal collection through GM, but at work I like my Pantera channel on Pandora which plays a great mix for me all day.

I've been using google music and slacker. If you pay for these services, does it force you to have higher quality, or can you adjust it? I wouldn't want to use the higher quality because I only get 2gb per month on my phone, and I already come close to the limit just streaming the lower quality.

I guess it really wouldn't make sense for me to pay for it though since I'm not worried about the quality, and even 5 skips per day is fine with me (with slacker anyhow)

Being able to use the windows client is nice, don't have to keep it in a browser.

No Ads, sucked in the middle of a workout going to a mandatory commercial.

Able to go over the 40 hours a month limit. I'd usually hit the 40 hours about week 3.

Well worth the $3.99

I thought they removed the 40 hour limit? And most of the adblockers for android and windows (not sure about iOS) block streaming audio ads.

Maybe they did, been a subscriber for a while.

I don't see how an adblocker would know when the audio stream is an ad. And even if it did, then what? Listen to silence until the next song comes on? Plus I'd rather not ripoff Pandora to save $3.99 a month.
