(user) is typing a message...

Don't you hate when people don't have this enabled with their instant messengers ? You're waiting and waiting and you don't know if they're in the middle of typing a response to you... :|

In Trillian... go to your Preferences --> Identities & Connections tab --> go into the connection properties and there's a Privacy tab. AIM clients have the privacy tab somewhere also. You can do eeeeeit!

Why don't you call her daddy and ask him if you can come over instead of chatting with her. (just be sure not to do it on a school night....she might have a test in her 4th grade math class tomorrow)

The point is a lot of people don't even know that theirs is disabled (by default). It should be a very visible option and it's not. 🙁

I like it. I have it turned on. It's not a big deal if someone leaves a letter in the typing box and it's telling me that they're sending a message when they really aren't. A lot of the time in conversation (if they're active and not just sitting there for hours), I'll hold off responding until I see their reply. 🙂 I like it.

I'm married... and I don't chat with people I don't know... not since I was 15 at least. I'm simply tired of waiting on slow typers... I don't want to be waiting around if they aren't typing a response.

Crap...you just blew my "dating a young girl online" joke. 😛 No fun.

i use trillian and it was on by default, at least i've never changed a setting to have to enable it

I see the option in Trillian now... go to your Preferences --> Identities & Connections tab --> go into the connection properties and there's a Privacy tab.

Not all IM protocols support this.

i think its invasion of privacy

Are people so anal about privacy that they feel the need to hide from a person whether or not they're typing a message TO THAT PERSON?

For some reason Trillian seems to randomly switch between "___ is typing a message" and "___ has entered text."
I'm assuming there's a difference, maybe the latter activates after a set amount of time, but it seems to not work quite often.

sorry I should've mentioned AIM and MSN Messenger. Those were the ones I'm referring to. MSN does it by default.

I wonder what Yahoo Messenger does. I know ICQ was the first with this ability way back when...
