Studies have shown spending money on expiriences (trips, fine dining, amusement parks, etc) makes you happier in the long run than spending it on posessions.

You can also combine the two. Buy wood then build your own furniture. You'll appreciate it more than buying garbage from Ikea. Also get more pissed off when some person breaks it....

Same boat here. In fact, I'm trying to get rid of stuff. My wife and I just went through our closets and gave away six large plastic bags of clothes to the Good Will.

What to do with your money? Travel more. Pay off your house. Invest at least 15% of your income into retirement, more if you feel comfortable. Build a "go to hell" fund which can sustain you for a year or more if you are out of work.

With your attitude on life you're an excellent candidate to build wealth. Good luck to you.

Good for you! This means that you'll always be able to live within your means! Personally, I'd put away the money, as you may find a reason to spend it later (bigger house, education for the kids, etc.). If you're looking for a reward for yourself, maybe find a way to translate that money into time, buying services for things that you don't like doing. If you're just looking to burn away some of that cash, perhaps consider donating it to a cause where you think the money will be put to good use.

I understand your situation. I'm living on a grad student stipend, and while I don't feel flush with cash, there isn't much right now that I feel I really want and can't have, except maybe a house.

The only shit I want right now is a garage/mini barn to store fire wood, my snow blower and a trailer during the winter easily. And I'd like to do a kitchen remodel. Those things are both pretty expensive though and a pain in the ass so I'm doing nothing right now.

The last 4 years or so I've bought computer parts for almost no reason.

Awww... you're growing up.

Read the book Affluenza.

Ultra-consumerism ≠ capitalism.

I disagree that being financially responsible is somehow a break away from capitalism. Capitalism is the reason I am able to become affluent.

Well I did cave and order myself a Crucial M4 128GB SSD... so I guess I am a bit materialistic 😉

$199, pretty good bargain.

I love my ipad 2, but if you have tablets on the brain it might pay off to take a look at the Tegra 3 stuff that'll be coming out soon. From what I hear tegra 3 based devices are going to make previous tablets look like pocket calculators. Shit's about to get exciting IMO.

I've owned 3 Android phones and they were all unpolished turds. I doubt I'll consider anything Android for quite some time.
